100 years of Stainless Steel – exhibition at Millennium Gallery @MuseumSheffield

Stainless steel was discovered in Sheffield in 1913 by Harry Brearley. To celebrate the centenary there is an exhibition at the Millennium Gallery in Sheffield that brings together some of the earliest and most recent stainless steel items, from the functional to the artistic – and even the wearable.

Stainless steel was originally sold under several different brand names, including Rustnorstain and Everbright. Cutlery that didn’t tarnish was new and buyers had to be convinced that it was a good idea.
