In an exciting night, with the presence of the Brit Awards 2013 in the city, Artrocker Magazine & Popular presented New Blood Festival 2013, in association with Original Penguin and Olympus. Playing along for six days at Hoxton Square Bar & Kitchen were an exclusive series of shows showcasing Whales in Cubicles, Fractures, Jacques Caramac and the sweet Generation, The Kill Van Kuls, Towns, Must, The Vestals, Spectres, Babeshadow, Tripwires, Silverclub, Sheen, Reptile Youth, Neurotic Mass Movement, Blackeye, Entertainment, Kites, Wayflayers, Navaho Blue, The Divers, The Brute Chorus, Crows, Velcro Hooks, Hank Haint.
Thursday night line-up was headed by Babeshadow. I met them on a Saturday night in Dalston, where a massive crowd of artists has been living since 2010 and that since the riots 2011 has become more and more popular. The neighbourhood is changing and with these steps of improvements, it is a shape that art and music establish to change the world. It also keep the flame of the struggle the riot and fierce force of those who deserve better conditions in life. Babeshadow is the London-based musical project of Tom Cawte and David Thornley. They have the chance opportunity to open for Peter Doherty at the Rhythm Factory in 2009. They use Babeshadow, a name borrowed from a T-Rex track. In 2010, Babeshadow released their first EP, Sea Serpents, on LuvLuvLuv Records, scouted by manager Mairead Nash, who landed them in Maida Vale studios, doing BBC and radio sessions with Rob Da Bank and Steve Lamacq. Also supporting Florence + The Machine, The Drums, etc. Their last single, Days of Old, was recorded in Abbey Road Studios. For the occasion a video has been recorded at Artrocker.tv, Babeshadow ft Tom Moth / Every Heart (Live).
Tom Moth is the bassist from Florence + The Machine, seen last 2012 at O2 Arena supporting The Rolling Stones, and seen again supported by Haim, when sometimes supporting bands do better than main artists, but the masses still loving her in a very well dressed show and really enjoyable performance, one of the greatest talented female vocals from London scene. So, this Thursday night, when the expectations have been created for Brits Awards, we enjoy Artrocker Magazine and New Blood Festival. A very amusing pop from Artrocker showing up new forthcoming bands, Babeshadow, Tripwires, Silverclub, Sheen. This glam rock, indie, characterizes Artrocker style, with its awards, events, parties and festivals. Here is to remember the winners of Artrocker Awards 2012 Django, Django, taking place at Sebright Arms, where also played Dark Horses, Public Service Broadcasting, etc.
Heading the line- up Babeshadow delighted us with that American groove style similar to McCartney. The fresh is on the way and the Abbey Road Studios style is indispensable. His playing shows a good education, interest, and desire to dance and do music. Entertainment and a way to combine live instruments offer attractive, interesting, with high quality and good vibes. Also something from The Strokes and lets say Biffy Clyro. They play bass guitar, vocals, piano, keyboards and drums. Let’s meet then soon and catch his wave!
Other bands on the stage are Sheen, Silverclub and Tripwires. Sheen is a fresh melodic pop band with female vocals, 2 guitars, bass, drums and keyboards, with large, faster and agile sounds. Their rock bases complemented with background sounds from psycho-pop and soft tropicalia, with keyboards and enjoyable experimental guitar coupled sounds. Silverclub is 4 member’s bands with korg, mac, vocals, drums and a Dj playing vinyl, stylishly Lcd Soundsystem, a very wavy sound live. And finally Tripwires, the main course of English indie rock is served. 2 guitars, vocals, bass, drums, next to Jack White, The Horrors, with splendid live, next to Smashing Pumpkins and My Bloody Valentine.
