A spicy Italian red to warm away the winter doldrums.
This opened up spectacularly an hour after uncorking to reveal a sensitive little wine that quaked in the glass like little orphan Annie’s baby sister. Sitting prettily in the tasting glass it needed decanting to release the full autumnal spices that hid in the dark purple liquid.
Composed primarily of Sangiovese this is a young wine that is already showing more than a glimpse of what it will be like in the height of its drinking window. Supple and investigative, like a young Al Pacino this wine caresses your taste buds whilst leaving you with the sense that something great has just happening. Another glass confirms the wine presents beautifully, balanced like a daredevil riding a BMX across a wire over the Niagara Falls. Made in Grosseto in Tuscany, Italy the DOCG is a great discovery and a glass or two is recommended as an antidote to winter’s snowy cruelness.
Wine Verdict: A pleasant surprise.
