A weekend long project summarising societies’ fixation on the consumerist lifestyle. Since consumerism is at the heart of society we are beginning our programme of projects with it as a means of using art as a platform for discussing world topics. The weekend long event will host an exhibition of editions, a shop of originals, artist talks, an artist-led workshop and a film screening. The entire weekend will encompass our obsession with possessions and our pursuit of the good life.
An exhibition showcasing the work of 10 unrepresented artists will only house reproductions. As a role reversal the shop, usually stocking reproductions, will be selling one of a kind pieces of art. The film screening event will show a documentary made by apologia considering local consumerism and and how each of the artists are responding to it.
Apologia will also be hosting artist talks free to the public for them to engage with local unrepresented artists. An artist-led workshop will teach participants how to fight, repurpose and cope with consumerism in three parts.
The event packed weekend will explore consumerism from multiple angles in the hope of understanding it better and perhaps serving as research into an alternative outlook.
