New Artists: Paintings by Rhea Eunjoo In

Chimney horse

Lately, I have been painting using the merry-go-round as a motif. While searching for a unique object that resembles my innocence and extraordinariness well, I decided to paint the sensibility-provoking carousel in an amusement park right next to my apartment in Korea.

Merry Maker

In my work, I imagine the merry-go-round as the zoo and a unicorn’s body transformed as a flying mountain in an attempt to associate naivety to my work. My painting reminds the abstraction of lines in the scribbly paintings of Joan Mitchell which I admire very much and I hope my work brings warm energy and a child-mind to the viewers through my touches.

Furthermore, I strive to understand my deep feelings from a third point of view by painting what is the most authentic to me.
