UNSCENT , Milano: Top perfumers create fine art

UNSCENT has taken 15 of the world’s top perfumers and asked them to design an art installation that translates their olfactory creations into visual art. This show is about finding a new language for scent and linking the senses, seeing perfume almost like a synesthesiast might perceive them.

Fragments of the emerging olfactory scene, presents the international olfactory scene of Art Perfumery with installations and project rooms, in the historic surroundings of Palazzo Morando in via S. Andrea 6, in the heart of Milan’s fashion district. The name of the event, by using its negative form, seeks to communicate the world of perfume without perfume, activating a programme of research on the invisibility of essences in the context of the world that inspires them. Celso Fadelli is thus creating a new concept for communicating the world of perfumery research by devising an emotional platform which, under the artistic direction of Cristiano Seganfreddo, entirely involves the visitor. Following a path through art installations and olfactory rooms created by fifteen brands of perfumery, through the rooms on the ground floor, the visitor is guided through an experimental crescendo between art and fashion which ends in the lounge area in front of the internal garden. Special projects include a Video Olfactory Room by Diane Pernet, one of the world’s most important fashion icons, a room designed by Sacré Nobi, a Japanese artist based in New York who has created a perfume inspired by Michelangelo’s sculpture “La Pietà”, and the works of Yusuke Nishimura on light and invisibility, a guiding image of UNSCENT; and last but not least a room dedicated to a unique experience with Alessandro Gualtieri, the ingenious originator of Nasomatto.
Palazzo Morando, in the heart of the fashion area of milan, is the city’s costume museum. In the ground floor generally it hosts important and international events and exhibitions.
