The artondsquare (pronounced “art on the square”) project emanated from a passion for drawing which I’ve always been doing from time to time. It’s a skill I’m scared of losing as an artist because I came from a background where drawing is elementary to your art foundation.
As I tend to do more and more drawings from time to time, the more urge I felt in going bigger as in imparting it onto a more larger audience. Its been a long ambition which has just come to fruition and will commence at Sandton Library on Nelson Mandela square, Johannesburg. The Sandton Library prides itself as one of the best libraries in Africa with ultra modern facilities alongside unlimited art books, and journals to accompany the classes. It will be a 3 hour morning Saturdays- only initiative as most of my prospective attendants are working class who’ve felt either the need to flex for pleasure or beyond albeit I don’t plan to impose any age restriction because such skills shouldn’t be bound by anything. It’s been properly scheduled so as not to conflict with my professional artistic practices as well those who shall be attending.
I’m trying to revive a culture here, for people who have been yearning for drawing as a hobby and have been seeking such a platform. Artondsquare activities will be made available on social networks such as twitter @artondsquare and facebook artondsquare.
