The photo sharing website Instagram has become a major method for photographers to desalinate – no, but thank you for trying, Mr Autocorrect – disseminate their work. Gone are the days of having to get a contract with Time magazine for anyone to see your photos. Now you can take a photo on your phone in London, upload it to Instagram and have someone in Australia comment on it within thirty seconds. Of course that’s a bad example as the someone in Australia is probably asleep, but you get the idea.

Instagram is immediate and interactive. No longer are your shots, brilliant though they might be, stuck on your hard drive waiting for a gallerist to see your genius. Merely by signing up for Instagram you have access to millions of people interested in photography.
Granted, a few of those millions are interested in shots of their sleeping dog or the latest fads in nail varnish (which to be fair can actually be quite interesting #nailart). But if London photography is your thing then there are lots of people sharing photos from around the great city which you’ll find interesting.
This is in no way a top ten, mainly as there are only six. It’s the start of a list of the photographers that are posting interesting photography of London. There are many more to add – in documentary and other categories – which we’ll do in future articles.
