About her work, Catalina Estrada once said “I love colors and shapes and if I have a choice I want to make them beautiful.” This statement shines through in all that she does.
Catalina is a Colombian illustrator based in Barcelona since 1999. Her cheerful visual language, bear thousands of colours and her influences of unconditional love of nature, goes beyond boundaries. Flora and fauna are prominent throughout her designs and she builds upon these, a universe based on the simplicity of beauty. An array of characters wander around her fascinating world in images, which are bright and emotive. Her delicate and elegant images communicate from within the eye-catching colours that she uses.
Her technical precision has certainly paid off with her illustrations charming people across the globe. Sony music, Nike and Honda but to name a few are all brands Estrada has created graphics for.
Catalina Estrada’s two-dimensional illustrations, which have been transformed onto fabric for her new collection, which brings an exciting edge in constant movement and vibrancy, and her flamboyant illustrations and prints have not gone unnoticed in the fashion industry. Collaborating with the likes of Paul Smith, she is definitely able to create a collection that stands out from the other, In her 11th collaboration, Catalina has created yet another enchanting and vibrant fashion collection with Brazilian fashion brand, Anunciacao which features full prints that work in her signature cheerful colours as well as earthy tones.
The collection features a range of dresses and shirts, all which form simple structures, which allows the fantasy prints to come to life. The clashing patterns provide trends and texture which transforms the pieces and makes them look more 3 dimensional, drawing the viewer into her creative imagination.
On the high-street, Zara’s latest collection combines baroque prints with rich silks and exotic colours which are on par to Catalina’s incredible collection.
In an interior collaboration, Estrada’s has continued with her incredible ability to create a fascinating captivating world with botanical and floral shapes. The collection is Catalina’s latest project created in collaboration with Coordonne, a brand founded in 1978 with the idea of offering a fabulous range of wall coverings and textiles.
Her wallpapers act as murals in bold designs that are saturated in colour and make for wall coverings that any wall would be proud to adorn. With repeat patterns to sweet scenes, all incorporating her enchanting characters and swirls of floral and wildlife details, these pieces of art will make a bold statement in any room.
