Changarrito is a project by Máximo González. A Mexican visual artist, he has brought the Mexican tradition of street vending to the art world. Changarrito is a street vending cart, of the sort more usually seen selling food or goods.
The Changarrito cart is a mobile exhibition space for more than sixty artists. Its content is diverse and reflects the whole spectrum of Mexican arts. The project has grown to encompass other projects such as the Changarrito Collection and the Poetic library of artists’ books . You can even become an Amigos del Changarrito and support the cause!
The Changarrito is non profit and 100% of any sale price goes to the artist.
Changarrito has been active since 2004 and has now been seen at many exhibitions around the world including bringing Mexican art to the Venice Biennale. It is a great example of grass-roots artistic endeavour, bringing artists together and finding a new audience for their work. There should be a changaritto in every town!
