Head down to Shakespeare’s Globe on Thursday evening (11th Aug) for the latest SAM talk – the Globe’s take on TED talks (in memory of Globe founder Sam Wanamaker).
The lectures have this year seen several renowned Shakespeare scholars give their take on key events linked to Shakespeare’s death in 1616. Thursday’s talk will be given by Professor Eric Rasmussen, who famously authenticated the Saint-Omer copy of the Shakespeare First Folio discovered in 2014 (which is currently residing in the Globe’s exhibition). He’ll be giving an insiders’ account on how the news of its discovery went viral, receiving 12.5 million online page views worldwide, and leading to widespread claims that the volume proved Shakespeare was a secret catholic.
