Formed in late 2011, The Mojo Slide is a group of musicians hailing from Cambridgeshire. They write their own music and play a mixture of classic Rock ‘n’ Roll and Blues.
My first encounter with their sound came with the song ”Smiling”. Sweet, nostalgic, accompanied with a very beautiful and smart music video, it could easily be considered a small Rock ‘n’ Roll anthem for the passage from loneliness to self-acceptance and the conquest of happiness. The movie La Strada by Federico Fellini, came into my mind many times while I was watching the video.
The next song, titled ”Jesus does not Love Me”*, was a very pleasant surprise. As soon as the sound of the guitar invaded my ears, it made me want to get up and dance. My leg never stopped pounding to the rhythm of the tune, not to mention that I had to put the song on repeat for at least two more times! Playful but also with the necessary Rock ‘n’ Roll attitude, it transported me into a small dark pub, filled with smoke, enjoying a glass of whiskey with Morrison and Hendrix.
The last song, ”Bad In Every Bone”, turned my room into a huge deserted highway and my chair into a shiny black Harley Davidson. I could easily feel the breeze shuffling my hair and in front of me I could see unfolding a vast horizon, painted with the craziest shades of violet and orange. By the end of the song I was thirsty for more dirty Rock ‘n’ Roll but also blessed with a sense of absolute freedom.
The rockers from Cambridgeshire know very well what they do. Judging from the three tracks above, we can easily expect a very promising album that carries many radio hits in it. I am sure that in the upcoming months, we will hear more news from these guys.
Their much anticipated debut album Twist Your Bones will be released on 14th of November and let me tell you, they will totally twist both your body and mind.
