Looking to update your wardrobe?

Spring and summer is fast approaching and you may be thinking that it’s time to update your wardrobe for those weddings and all important events that you have to attend this summer.

Print on print has been big on the catwalk this year with D&G using prints with bright colours, flowers and fruits. Whereas Erdem presented a more delicate and more forgiving twist on this trend using paler and more sparsely populated print.  The trick to wearing print on print is to pick a theme such as paisley or floral prints and pick another print that is within the theme but in a smaller or bigger print. But if you really do want to mismatch print then the best way to do it, is to make sure the sizes of the prints differ from one another. You should also wear larger prints where you want to accentuate your silhouette and smaller prints to minimise areas you don’t like.

The vintage Americana trend is also big this season; with cartoon Cadillac motifs and flame backed heels at Prada it’s no wonder this trend is such a hit. And it’s not only Prada that have taken inspiration from the 50’s as Marc Jacobs bought gingham and wet look skirts in to his collection, which make you think of buffed leather of old American cars. Also cat eye sunglasses are a big hit this season and finish off any vintage Americana look.  Vintage Americana does show a fair bit of midriff but with skirts being A-line and high-waisted; if you did wear a bralet you’d be showing off the thinnest part of your waist. If you can’t dare to bare, the ladylike shapes of pencil and A-line skirts are flattering to all.

Peplums have made a big splash this spring summer; a peplum adds volume to the waist and creates an hourglass silhouette. This trend is here to stay and should be around to at least the end of the year, with Marc Jacobs, Stella McCartney and Elie Saab giving us there take on the peplum trend. The peplum top can give you a great cinched in waist if paired with the right fitted short or trouser. It would also look great with a pencil skirt, which would give you a great hourglass silhouette.

Soft pastel colours are on trend right now; cream, coral, light pink and peach are big this season with the likes of Ralph Lauren using the pastel in silk pyjama pants and vintage inspired cashmere jumpers.  Mulberry also used lemon yellow in macs and their sporty shorts, and peach in their flirty tulle maxi skirts. Preen used baby pink and lemon in there peplum style dresses and manish blazers. Pastel can sometimes be a hard trend to pull off, its best to keep things simple and don’t over accessorize the outfit. Also keep the shoes neutral, for instance nude heels or grey ballet pumps look great with any pastel outfit.

There is something out there for everyone regardless of your shape or size. These are just a few of the key trends out there, but there are many more out there waiting to be discovered. And on that note I think it’s time to shop!
