It’s been a long time since my last entry. Time has flown by so it only seems like a few weeks ago I wrote the last entry to my diary, but it’s actually been over 3 months! So what have I been up to?
Last year I made my first foray into theatre. Being a fan of all things film, the notion of ‘live’ wasn’t appealing. Why add ‘live’ to the list of complicated stuff you have to pull together on a creative project?! But after reluctantly taking on the job – my sister is the writer – I’m hooked! Not only is the play exceptionally well written (who knew?!) but there’s something very rewarding about working with a smaller team, being on the creative coal-face with the actors and having a more instant audience reaction, which has reeled me in. So now we are taking dating comedy Call Me! to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival this year. The last few months have flown by and I’d like at least another month to plan all our promotional stunts but apparently that’s how it goes with Edinburgh.
We’ve managed to secure a sponsor – www.TheatreLoverDating.co.uk – which is particularly apt for the play and their support has been invaluable. Watch this space for some promotional videos for the show that they’ve supported. This also has reinforced my belief that working with brands can be rewarding creatively as well as financially, which harks back to my last entry about my feature film Fortune Cookies and its work with company sponsors. Our sponsor for Call Me! will be helping us ‘push’ our videos and helping us to reach our theatre-loving audience.
Joining me on this project is director Dan Wilson who is attached to my other feature film One Life, the next film to come from Reelscape Films, and we’re rehearsing in sunny (it’s never sunny) Manchester where we hope to film One Life next year.
So keeping up with Fortune Cookies as well as working freelance for the Royal Shakespeare Company has been tough, but you know you really do love doing what you do when you never tire of putting in the hours.
