When Boy Meets Girl

Anyone that knows me, knows, I do not have an interest in menswear. Just the men underneath the clothes. So it came as somewhat a surprise, when rooting through this years recent fashion graduates, that it was Menswear designer Natalia Mencej, from Central Saint Martins, that has made the biggest imprint in my little fashion filled mind!

We’re all no strangers to the androgynous trends that have been dominating the catwalks and the high streets over the past years, we all love it, we all in some way or another have adopted it, whether it be a pair of patent brogues, a stunning slouchy blazer, or even a sheer sleeveless shirt, we all crave classic masculine styles and shapes and throwing in a feminine twist. And of course over the last near century, with designers such as Chanel and Helmut Lang innovating the way women dress, it has become more than the norm for us females to inject masculinity into our wardrobes.

So why is it still regarded socially ‘unacceptable’ for men to add a sparkle of femininity, without being stereotyped automatically as ‘gay’?

However I feel we may just be entering the new age! And Natalia Mencej is leading the way! I loved her collection of contemporary hip hop wear, in a sweet palette of baby blues, mint greens and lilacs. But here’s my favourite part, the models walked down the catwalk with adorable pugs in matching jumpers! And lets face it: cute, little dogs are quite frankly, a girls thing.

Maybe it was the embellished shorts that shimmered, or the lace-like knitted jumpers that caught my eye, but all I know is, the collection had ‘Man’ written all over it.
