The best summer’s day ever? A delicious new trail from @YorksFoodFinder

What’s your ideal summer’s day? A glass of Pimm’s and a gourmet barbecue? Bumpy tractor rides up and down country lanes? A ringside seat at a thrilling polo match? Yorkshire Food Finder’s latest culinary trail, ‘More than meats the eye’, packs in all these and more on Saturday, June 8.

Starting at The Star pub at Sancton, the trail takes intrepid foodies on a delicious journey exploring artisan beef and beer from ‘gate to plate’. The day has all the ingredients of summer perfection, but the real star of the show is the food. Namely, Ed and Lucy Rook’s Stabiliser cattle and the Givendale Prime beef they producer and Mark Storey’s fantastic microbrewery beers, both of which feature in the sumptuous barbecue lunch and three-course evening meal prepared by Ben Cox, chef at The Star.

The tractor’s first stop is Castle Farm, where Ed and Lucy will talk about the passion, dedication and long hours that go into producing their great tasting beef. Their cattle often roam the Houghton Estate, which is the venue for the barbecue lunch, Pimms and a Summit Cup Polo match.

Next, it’s to Brough to hear Mark Storey talk about his Big River Brewery beer, and then the grand finale – a three-course extravaganza cooked by Ben Cox and his team of chefs, showcasing Givendale Prime beef and Big River Brewery beer. It’s a delicious, diverse and well-bred day out – just like the food it celebrates.
