The South London Art Map will host SLAM Friday this October 25th, in partnership with ‘The Big Draw 2013’, Bankside, SE1.
SLAM Fridays are the late night opening of galleries across South London on the last Friday of every month, free for all and no booking required. The recently launched 4th edition of the South London Art Map features a ‘passport’ that enables visitors to collect stamps to win prizes.
This October, SLAM Friday Bankside coincides with the launch of the new fourth print edition of the South London Art Map; freely available from all SLAM galleries, the final page of the map holds the also newly launched SLAM Passport. Users are encouraged to get a stamp at each SLAM gallery they visit spanning all four hubs. Once ten stamps have been collected prizes can be claimed – this month’s prizes are tickets to the Affordable Art Fair Private View
Alongside the map, SLAM also run SLAM Friday Tours, a great place to start for first time visitors. SLAM Friday’s ‘Big Draw Art Tour’ will start at The Jerwood Drawing Space, this year exhibiting the 19th Jerwood Drawing Prize, visiting five exhibition spaces, finishing at the Drawing Room, SE1, with a specialist drawing focused exhibition: ‘Marking Language’; a great precursor for next month’s SLAM Friday which will take place in Bermondsey. Along the way the ‘Dining Room Drawing Club’ will be facilitating ‘quick draw’ opportunities at each space, encouraging attendees to ‘put down their i-pads and pick up their HB’s’.
Exhibitions and events will be hosted in spaces from old churches to converted warehouses and galleries in front rooms all of which can be visited outside of the tours as well. Drawing materials and drawing aficionados will be on hand at the varying venues for attendees to document their experience at this SLAM Friday.
