Think London needs an autonomous, ethical place to put on shows, gigs and radical projects? In that case you’re not alone. DIY Space For London has been started in response to the need for ‘a self-sustaining, accessible space in London for DIY culture and radical activity: somewhere suitable for gigs, events, community organising and much more’. It will be run by the members, with everyone having an equal say in how the space is used.
Of course such a space needs cash. Thousands of pounds have already been raised, and tonight there is a fund-raising gig at the Power Lunches Art Cafe in Hackney. Admission is by donation and bands you can see include Actual Crimes, Gloss Rejection, Witching Waves and Giant Burger.
