What Wandsworth means to me
Images of Wandsworth from Instagrammers across London were exhibited this weekend to raise money for the children’s charities supported by the Wandsworth Mayor Cllr Angela Graham. Photographers had responded to the exhibition title ‘What Wandsworth means to me’.
Details of some of the finalists
The contest received over 500 entries, from which forty were chosen by the judges as best representing the spirit of Wandsworth. These were displayed in the democratic space of the Southside shopping centre in Wandsworth, ensuring a large number of Wandworthians [is that a word?] could view the images. The mayor noted that there had been entries from people of all ages, and that ‘some of the photographs are simply amazing.’
Entries ranged from the iconic sights of the borough, sunsets and of course the Thames to more personal meditations on life in Wandsworth. The winner by Rachel Nixon was Tooting Sari Shop. A horizontal rainbow of vibrant colours, it made an enticing abstract image from a multitude of brightly patterned saris piled high for sale.
All the images were generously printed by the local Snappy Snaps and were sold to raise money for the Mayor’s children’s charities to help support the young people of Wandsworth.
The entries to the show are still available to see on Instagram under the hashtag #MyWandsworth.
