December is almost upon us. And that means it’s officially acceptable to eat mince pies in your pyjamas whilst watching Home Alone 1, 2 and 3 back-to-back. But if you’re feeling the urge to venture outside, we’ve rounded up the best things that the capital has to offer.

1 You Say You Want a Revolution? Records and Rebels 1966-1970V&A Museum until 26th February 2017

If you missed out on Woodstock the first time round, this is your chance to recline on comfy beanbags in front of huge screens showing clips from the festival and pretend you’re there. And if you were there the first time, you’ll be able to revisit our coolest decade (minus the drugs of course). The V&A’s blockbuster exhibition explores the counter-culture of the late ‘60s through music, fashion, film, design and politics. Discover the exhibits – from a Biba mini dress to John Lennon’s canary yellow Sgt Pepper suit and the first issue of Time Out – accompanied by a groovy soundtrack. This is a feast for the eyes, the ears and the soul.

2 The Radical Eye: Modernist Photography from the Sir Elton John CollectionTate Modern until May 2017

Who knew that Elton John was an aficianado of art? In between writing global pop hits, he’s been busy building up an enviable collection of modernist photographs. Luckily for us, a selection of pieces from his 8,000 strong haul is now on display at Tate Modern. There’s some really impressive stuff in here – by icons including Irving Penn, Man Ray, Brassai and Dorothea Lange. It really is no sacrifice (sorry) to go and see this stunning display.

3 Christmas at Kew, Kew Gardens until 2nd January 2017

Visit Kew this weekend and experience a magical botanical wonderland. A mile-long trail winds its way through the beautiful gardens, transformed after dark with twinkling lights and brightly coloured illuminations. There’s plenty here to entertain the kids – from a vintage carousel to Santa’s grotto. And of course mulled wine, festive nibbles and Christmas gifts for the adults.

4 The Children, Royal Court Theatre until 14th January 2017

Lucy Kirkwood is back with another sharp, thought provoking offering. But unlike her last play, the critically acclaimed Chimerica, this one swaps the political for the domestic. The Children is an intimate three-hander starring Francesca Annis, Ron Cook and Deborah Findlay. Centred around two retired nuclear scientists whose quiet existence is disturbed by an old friend with a frightening proposal, it explores ageing, responsibility and desire.

5 Abigal Ahern Christmas Wreath Making Workshop, Selfridges Saturday 3rd December

Everyone in London knows at least one person who’s now a florist, is planning to become one, or just wishes they could give up their day job and be one. Selfridges has cottoned on to the happiness that beautiful blooms can bring and is hosting a wreath making class with experts from Abigail Ahern. They’ll show you how to create a wreath in a 90-minute workshop using seasonal faux flowers – and of course you’ll be able to take your creation home with you to dazzle your friends and family.

6 It’s a Wonderful Life Christmas Film Club, The Soho Hotel Sunday 4th December

There’s no shortage of film pop ups in the capital this winter. But if the thought of sitting outside on a deckchair shivering under a blanket brings on a panic attack, we’ve got just the thing for you. The Soho Hotel’s screening room comes with exceptionally comfy seats – and sofas for those who prefer to snuggle. And what better to cuddle up to than everyone’s favourite Christmas film? And the best thing is that afterwards you can retire to the gorgeous bar upstairs and debate the social duty of banks in the 21st century over a cocktail or three.
