Christopher Green spent two months standing outside the Liverpool Street branch of McDonald’s. He drew the view for so long he was befriended by its staff, but now his drawing of the street scene has won one of Britain’s top figurative art prizes. Green receives £15,000 as the winner of the 2017 Lynn Painter-Stainers prize for his large-scale ink drawing, Lunchtime, Liverpool Street. He was also awarded a gold medal.
Called ‘ambitious and original’ by the competition’s judges, Christopher Green drew the work in sections during April, May and June 2016.
Second prize of £4,000 was awarded to Michael Chance for his work, Self-Portrait in a Peanut Factory.
Christopher Green’s winning drawing will be exhibited at the Mall Galleries from 6–18 March as part of the Lynn Painter-Stainers competition exhibition alongside 105 other shortlisted entries.
