The Dare2Draw is a mentoring and networking platform for all artists, an opportunity to connect with each other, face-to-face. Established artists and arts organizations meet in a supportive setting, putting the art back in sequential art. There are contests and prizes, with a fun and engaging game show vibe.
The Big City Dare2Draw, a monthly event, in New York City brings together artists and fans, face to face, to meet and compete, in a fun and engaging environment. Our main mission is to help provide networking, mentoring and promoting opportunities, for artists of all levels, while raising money for artists in need, with the art done by our guests. Established artists and arts organizations gather at our Dare2Draws, putting the art back in sequential art. Our growing, popular, community-based cartoonist group returns monthly, at great locations around the city, each selected to inspire. There are contests and prizes, with a friendly game show vibe, with prizes provided by our awesome sponsors, Blue Line Pro, Accent UK, Pentel, Copic and others. People surprise themselves and each other with spontaneous sketches. We also showcase new artists to keep an eye out for!
Our monthly self-contained Dare2Draws are usually held on Wednesdays and run about 3 hours including: drawing from dynamic live-action models (not nude), art demos/panel discussions, our signature “Quick Draw Contests” and prizes, with, generally, anywhere from 40 to 100 people, ages 18 and up, in attendance. The event gives people a chance to learn from each other and promote themselves and their work.
Our next Big City Dare2Draw will be at The Museum of Cartoon and Comic Book Art (MoCCA), on Wednesday, February 22nd, which will include a panel discussion with Up-and-Coming Artists Jennifer Crute, Liza Biggers, Giovanni Valletta, Robin Ha, Kat Roberts and Klaus Shmidheiser. It’s a fundraiser and we’ll be helping to raise money for the MoCCA mission: preserving the comic book art form.
