So, at the weekend I took a trip to the Pallant House Gallery in Chichester, West Sussex. Expecting a small, mismatched exhibition space, I was shocked to actually find out Pallant House is one of the biggest contemporary art galleries outside of London. The contrast of modern, white cube-esque rooms and heavy, dark wooden furniture lined rooms was a pleasant surprise, and each space was well considered in terms of decor and the exhibition pieces.
My favourite room was the current temporary exhibition space featuring work by Enid Marx. As a fan of all things print, her work was a fantastic treat. Brightly coloured lino cuts stood out, whilst the detail on some of the smaller pieces was phenomenal. Here are a couple of examples of her work. I hope you like it just as much as I do!
These are just a few of her pieces that particularly stood out for me. Having done a lot of lino cutting in the past, I could really appreciate the amount of effort and detail that had gone into the work. Marx also has a portfolio of print patterns which have been made into various textile pieces including upholstery and bus seats.
You have until the 26th February to see this! I highly encourage you to do so if you find youself in West Sussex during this time.
