As my preference in music varies from one month to the next, I always find it very difficult to answer the horrid question of favourite bands and genres. I would therefore not encourage anyone to come to me for new, cool music tips, even though I do consider myself as a musically interested person. I would rather wait for me to drop the bomb with my latest obsession. The constant search for new music that grips my spine is made tricky and when I do finally succeed, I listen to that band until I can no longer stand it. A sure way of killing music but also a way to thoroughly embrace it. My latest conquest, ladies and gentlemens, is the relatively new band Alt-J (like the command on your keyboard), who manages to make indie pop sound fresh and brilliant, rather than the music we (I) relate to teenage and remorse. The band was formed by the four sweet-looking Brits during their uni time. As they were strudying English Literature and Fine Art, and is definitely not music, Alt-J appears as a randomly discovered bit of music genius and extensively stresses their finesse. Thank you Leeds University.
The fact that they’re playing at Oran Mor here in Glasgow on the 29th of October for merely £9 definitely increased my expectations for this month, and succesfully fed my, although increasingly tamed, mani.
