For starters I think the question should be who in the world doesn’t love vintage fashion? It was only a mere 3 hours ago that I found myself stepping out of my local vintage store clutching a much desired garment. I had purchased a beautiful black beaded crop top with bead fringe trimming. Now I’m not known to resist the odd mass-produced high street purchase (who is?) but I could never find something so exquisite or unique as this on the high street (well – maybe something flammable)! However, besides a slightly worrying compulsive shopping disorder, there is more to my love of vintage than one would automatically assume! Now I don’t buy much ethical fashion, (guilty as charged) and I am partial to leaving a few too many lights on behind me, however, despite this, I do care about our planet, and vintage fashion is the sleekest way to become eco stylish! Clothes made with ethical fabrics may be environmentally friendly….but they are still producing new unnecessary items when there are so many fabulous pre-owned items floating around the world in various vintage stores. Shopping vintage means we merely make fantastic use of other people’s (dare I say it) rubbish! Vintage culture is taking the fashion world by storm, and it seems somewhat ‘silly’ to buy from the high street when all their inspiration comes from vintage fashion…doesn’t it?
Great post. Short and to the point.
When I buy from a vintage or a charity shop I always feel proud of myself; that I’m recycling and doing my bit for the planet, and I’ve gained something pretty from it to =)
