Open Call – The Analogue verses Digital Pop-up Shop

finishedlogo

The Analogue verses Digital Pop-up Shop will be a retail space for products produced by independents in music, film, photography and literature. It will also form an exhibition space, a discussion space & a collaborative workspace. We hope to bring together creative practitioners and start-up businesses from different fields to cross-pollinate skills, opportunities, resources and potential audiences. Our purpose is to create a dialogue on how we can still use and treasure traditional artistic formats while also embracing and exploring the advantages of new media.

The project is being organised by Bees Make Honey & is planned for Nottingham, 15th-19th October 2013. We are running an Open Call for the following areas.

Retail

We are looking for products to sell in the shop that must fit the following criteria.

? Music, photography, film, video, literature or new media storytelling. Some art/design may be considered if appropriate.

? It must be produced by an independent business or individual in the UK, we will favour businesses operating outside of the London orbit.

? It can be either digital, analogue, or something of both. We hope to offer for sale a wide selection of vinyl records, paperback books and traditional photographs, as well as DVDs, digital music, ebooks & mixed media experiments that can be downloaded in store.

Exhibition

The New Media Writing Kiosk will showcase material which experiments with storytelling in digital formats – we are interested in unusual use of web platforms, apps or interactive ebooks. The work on show will be on rotation throughout the week.

The Analogue Stack will exhibit classic, vintage and unusual curios, from old formats of film and photography cameras, to record players & gramophones, to notable books. If you have something you would like on show, please contact us. A shop assistant will always be on hand to supervise.

If you have anything particular which fits neither of these categories, but you feel is very relevant to the overall theme, please don’t hesitate to ask us about exhibiting.

Workshops & Discussions

We welcome suggestions for workshops & discussions during the week, which tackle issues & techniques pertinent to the debate. Our workshops will mostly act as taster sessions as they must work within the context of the shop & the materials we have available. There will be workshops on traditional art forms such as pinhole photography, 16mm film & bookbinding, as well as those on progressive digital media. We would like all of them to have an emphasis on D.I.Y ethos, providing ideas for low-cost alternatives to what can often be expensive ventures.
